Hell For Society Stout

Pours one shade from black with a one-finger of fairly dark tan foam. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of roasted malts mostly with hints of coffee. As it warms very small amounts of unsweetened chocolate waft out.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Roasted malt and coffee flavors kick things off. Midway through the sip these flavors are tempered by a mild hop bitterness that intensifies to a moderate amount through the end of the sip.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a solid thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I finished my glass fairly quickly and could have another.

Overall I was impressed with this rather sessionable stout. Nothing overly exciting but certainly worth a shot if you see it on.

This was a fairly dark stout without much in the way of head. Smell was roasted grains, a little hops in there. Not really promising anything too grand, but nothing wrong with it. Flavor was mainly dry roasted malts, without much sweetness. Burnt, biscuity body with a good dose of bitterness. Pretty dry finish. Mouthfeel was solid. Not really thick or smooth, but again, carbonation was about right and it wasn't too thin. Drinkability was okay, although I nursed it long enough that it got pretty warm, at which point I think I picked up a little chocolate in there.
As a whole, a pretty standard, no frills stout. I've had better beers from Twain's, but it's always nice to have a fresh beer at the brewpub.

It has a nice dark color and the sort of tan, frothy head I like on stouts and porters. The taste is sharp and stouty, and the body is rich and thick but not overly viscous. The texture is velvety and smooth, and the aftertaste is subtle. A good finish to an evening (or afternoon) of drinking.

Pours black with no colored highlights, but not really thick and creamy- a little thin looking although dark. Decent head that fades to nothing and leaves no real lacing. Nice aromas of roasted grain, malt, and some cocoa on the finish. Maybe a touch of hazlenut as well. The taste is good, just not quite as nice as the smell. Fairly light but with nice roasty flavors, a fairly dry malt profile, some cocoa note on the finish and a touch of nuttiness. Could be a little creamier or substantial for the mouthfeel. There are also some slight sour notes from the roasted grain that aren't my favorite. A good effort and definitely drinkable, it just didn't wow me.

Booya. This ain't no halfassed stout. The liquid is a pitch black column in the glass topped off with a dark brown soupy froth of a head. The aroma throws up toffee, espresso, caramel, and cigar tobacco in a dizzying procession. This is simply an amazing beer. I would have thought this an imperial type stout because it packs in so much aroma and flavor, but the body just doesn't support that theory.
