Pours opaque and nearly black with a thin tan head. Strong coffee and chocolate aroma is slightly sweet and quite tempting. Rich chocolaty and roast coffee flavor has a touch of sweetness and a hint of hops. Texture is very smooth and quite tingly and fizzy, and leaves a satisfying finish.

Appearance: Pours an opaque, black body with tall, frothy, though short-lived beige head leaving splotchy lacing on the way down.
Smell: Mild aroma of dark malts with a touch of graininess. Only a distant note of unsweetened chocolate.
Taste: Dark malts and dark chocolate all with a confectioner's sugar sweetness. Roasty, earthy bitterness and a taste of scorched grains grows and builds as it warms and dominates the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Relatively mild carbonation.
Drinkability: Fairly good overall!

Taken from my notes on 01.10.08.
Arrived in a 10oz stem looking super, bright black with a frothy nitro-looking tan brown head.
Aroma- coffee & roasted malt.
Taste- slight hint of coffee & bittersweet cocoa. Not as full-bodies as you would expect, a tad thinnish in the mouth.
Very drinkable for an IS and quite tasty.

On-tap at the brewpub. Opaque black with a lcey creamy frothy Some chocolate malts. Not too sweet, leans on the coffee and roast. A great beverage, but not as good as the average RIS out there taste-wise. Hoppy too. Try their pale for the nailing of a style.

Thought I'd try an Imperial Stout at Twain's. Comes in a 13oz tulip glass. It looks great, a delicious black/brown with a very nice, lasting, dense brown head. Nose is toasted malts. Taste is a pleasant mix of burnt malts, coffee, and bitter dark chocolate. Not bad! Mouthfeel and drinkability are above average. Good brew from Twains.
