This is the Ten Pound Cherry Brown aged in what I assume to be red wine barrels.
Pours a hazy brown color with a one-finger off-white head with a very slight maroon tint. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.
Smells great - tart cherries with a very slight hint of funk. As it warms the aromas become even stronger.
Tastes just as good as it smells. Tart cherry flavors up front with hints of currants. These flavors are backed by very, very light hints of lightly toasted malts. The ending is crisp and leaves a mildly tart flavor lingering on the palate.
Mouthfeel is good. It has a decent thickness with active carbonation.
Drinkability is great. I finished the glass quickly and look forward to having another.
Overall this is hands down the best beer I've had the pleasure of tasting at Twain's. I'm not sure exactly what happened to this beer but it tastes much more like a sour than the non-barrel-aged version. Be sure to give this one a shot before it runs out.
