Appearance: Well-hazed, deep mahogany-hued body with a 3/4 inch-high head of creamy-looking, off-white foam.
Smell: Aroma smelling of caramel-covered bread crusts with milder, more subtle hints of earthiness and fruity citrus.
Taste: Sweet, sugary dark caramel maltiness with some nice toasty tones to it. Medium-plus sweetness. Citrusy, earthy hop character with a medium amount of bitterness. It's definitely more malt-forward than many India Pale Ales out there these days. Finishes smooth and bittersweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-light carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A fine IPA sported a very firm malt backbone, making for a smooth, well-balanced brew, though devoted hopheads probably wouldn't be too excited about it.

New Twain's IPA served in a 20 oz imperial pint glass. Bright, copper in appearance with good clarity. Off-white finger of froth. Subtle aroma of citrus and bready malt. Nice and fragrant hop bouquet. Citrus on the nose, with a dash of the sweet. Nutty maltiness in the middle, finishing very clean. Nicely balanced and one of the more maltier IPAs I've had in a while. At first, I thought this was a highly dosed ESB, but certainly leans more toward an IPA.
