Tried at Mellow Mushroom, Charlotte

A- pours dark black with a creamy light-tan head and good lace sticking

S- slightly roasted malt, light mocha & cocoa aromas with just a touch of coffee at the end

T- sweet chocolaty malt with a bit if woodsy/earthy hop notes, picking up a bit of cinnamon flavor, as well as some nutty character, finishes slightly sweet

M- medium body and carbonation with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a smooth finish

O- easy drinking and session-able stout, nothing extreme but pretty well balanced

Served from tap into a sampler tumbler. Poured a massively dark brown with a minimal light tan head. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, earth, and nutty. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, nutty, earth, and earth hop. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. The look on this one was spot-on for any brew in this style that I would love to see. Granted the rest of the brew really wasn’t that outstanding as far as complexity. The nutty aspect going on really hurt it in my opinion as it didn’t mix overly well with the roastiness I found in it. However it was still fairly drinkable with the low ABV. Glad to see the guys at NoDa do this for such a good cause though and can’t wait to have a pint next year to support it, just hope the nutty aspect is gone next time. Tick.
