Golden yellow body, crystalline clear; little detectable carbonation bubbles; relatively thick, frothy, white head. The smell has an overall fair light malt and herbal scent. Excellent cracker and biscuit malt base; mineral notes; mild herbal hop presence. Medium body; smooth and crisp; light warmth overall; semi-dry mouthfeel.
I like this sample better than from six years ago. It seems to have a bit more fullness and roundness to its character with classic light malt and modest noble hop qualities.
Pouring temperature: 49 °F; bottling data: BEST BEFORE notches: 3 | 23; other date notches: L | 1 | 2

March 03rd, 2016 review:
Sharp and clear gold colored body; lots of lively carbonation; thick, sudsy head. The aroma emits a mild, crystal malt sweetness; caramel; faint grass and herbal character. Mild malt sweetness; biscuit and bread crust; nice hop bitterness. Light body; crisp; dry finish.
A light, dry, refreshing German ale that should satisfy anyone looking for such things in a beer. Fairly malty upfront but with a subtle flair. The bitterness balances things nicely. Well done, overall...

From a pint bottle, decent head & expected straw color, but no smell. Flavor is a tad muted up front, but a nice hoppy-enough back end. There is an overall, nice sweetness, but it's still crisp. An excellent ale and one of my favorite Kölsches. Certainly a top-quality German export, definitely would get again, if it weren't $5/pint.

Picked up a 500 ml bottle from the Appalachian Vintner in Asheville 6-20-25 for $4.99. Cryptic bottle notching of 148; best before 1-2026; consumed for review 8-23-25. Cold stored since purchase.
Beer poured gold with a very nice white head.
Nose has notes of honey malts, fruity esters, and grassy hops.
Taste is honey on white bread, apple esters, grassy hops that leave a touch of lemon. Finishes with a trace of balancing bitterness.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and refreshing.
Overall, this is a very nice beer. Glad i was able to try a bottle!

On draught at the Rathskeller.
A golden pour with high clarity, a nice head, little lacing though.
Malt sweetness and hops bitterness are fairly well balanced, a nice clean and smooth semidry finish.
A very enjoyable Kolsch.

Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts. Taste is malts, just a hint of pear. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a clean, extremely easy drinking beer.

500mL brown bottle notched best before 1 25 poured into a Sünner signature stange at fridge temp 4.8 % ABV. The beer pours very bright pale gold with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is mild with pale malt, mineral and a hint of apple / pear / blooming flowers. The taste is semisweet pale malt with more flowery apple & pear before grassy mild bitterness and hard water minerals finish things off. The feel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, delicious Kölsch despite the miles and months of travel.

Despite having 4 months left on best before, this was flat, no head or lacing. Bland drink, I only wonder if the DR nk is better as German drinks are not typically this bad

Another Kölsch that I didn’t know existed. Vom fass at Sünner Im Walfisch. Delicious, of course. Sweet, malty, super drinkable. It’s all here. Top notch stuff. Went well with the food but great on its own.

On Lukr/side pull tap at Blackback Pub in Waterbury, VT.
This one pours a clear golden yellow color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.
This smells crackery, with a touch of honey and wheat, some doughy malt, and light grassy hops.
I’m absolutely in love with the fact that Blackback had this on Lukr – it’s perfectly pulled, with a soft bready taste, light sweetness, and the lightest wisp of grassy hop character.
This is very light bodied, but creamy and so drinkable, with a nice spice on the back end.
This is fantastic, and I wish I could just have killed mugs of this one.
