Poured from 750 mL bottle into shaker pint glass.
A: Pours an extremely dark brown with just a hint of light coming through at the edges with backlighting. Thin skim of light tan head that persists.
S: Herbal, pine, and (faint) floral hop notes mix with charred caramel and spicy rye and a touch of whiskey. Quite nice.
T: Hmmm...charred caramel and whiskey hit first, quickly followed by pine hops. Then the hop notes try to emerge from the rye whiskey barrel influences, but end up kinda drowning in them. Can't say there are "off" notes, but I'm just not digging the end result of this brew. Not bad, but a solid meh.
M: Light body. Oily feel. Some char and hop bitterness.
D: An interesting concept, but not a great result. The harsh (read bitter) hop notes clash with the harsh (read spicy and boozy) whiskey barrel notes. Didn't quite come off as I was hoping.
