Black with brown foam.
Sweet, roasted malt.
Coconut's apparent and it's more dark chocolate than milk, kind of powdered chocolate. There's a very slight off flavor, IMO, that's sorta woody.
Carbonation's too high for a stout, maybe even for a porter.

Perplexed by the low rating. Maybe earlier batches? As of October 2016 this is kicking ass. Remarkably thick and creamy for the abv. Deep chocolate and coconut flavor. A savory syrup element that's common to hpb dark beers. Calling out for barrels.

On tap at Highland Park Brewery in Los Angeles, CA.
Described as a toasted coconut stout.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, vanilla, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, vanilla, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with no real coconut aspects, but for some reason I am getting some barrel aged qualities out of this one even though the brewer confirmed this was not barrel aged in any way.
