Black with brown foam.
Cocoa powder, hot chocolate mix.
No harsh flavors in this stout, chocolate and caramel dominate. Plenty viscous with little to no hint of the higher ABV. Smooth, really pronounced dessert beer, no adjuncts necessary.
Slightly under carbonated, oily.

On tap at Highland Park Brewery in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, dark fruit, cocoa powder, and caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, caramel, and dark fruit flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with interesting dark fruit aspects that I wasn't expecting.

I enjoyed this brew at the source. Dark, roasty, oatmeal notes are complimented well by the thick, velvety texture.
Solid brew.
