Pours opaque black in color with minimal head. Taste is chocolate and roasted malt. Light bodied, clean, low carbonation and roasty. Solid, above average example of the style.

Though I'm not necessarily a huge fan of these Schwarzbeir, this one might very well be my favorite off all that I have had to date...
I'm a lager fan, I admit that. And I always thought I'd like these black lagers even better but then to find out, I really don't. There's something off putting on this style that just doesn't draw me to it, like it's lighter colored cousins. But this particular instance is a whole 'nuther story. Beautifully black though it has no head or lacing to mention. The smell is subdued, with hints of malt and the mouthfeel starts off very carbonated, but then warms to a light-body with a touch of creaminess. The taste is what sets this aside from others I have had: Malty with grass undertones, earthy from another perspective. Overall, this was a very nice surprise and a very solid beer, indeed.
