It’s back and bigger than ever! HellRazer has returned, but this time in the form of a 16oz can and a new recipe that pushes our favorite trouble maker well into the Double IPA category. Double dry hopped for a super aromatic and flavorful experience. This DIPA is immediately in your face with the exotic flavors and aromas of New Zealand Motueka Hops, yet maintains enough malt character to stay balanced.

A thanks to the founding father of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a hazy amber color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of melons, light papaya. Taste is melons, alcohol, moderate bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

I was not kidding, during New DelMarVa (+ DC) DuClaw Sunday (Week 778), when I said that my diving into my DuClaw backlog would be like diving into the depths of the Marianas Trench! I am going to be with them for a while to come, all in support of The CANQuest (tm). This is simply CANother in this ongoing madness.

From the CAN: "Brewed and CANned by DuClaw Brewing Co. Baltimore, Maryland"; "Double IPA"; "Motueka Hops Double Dry Hopped"; "It's back and bigger than ever! Hellrazer has returned, but this time in the form of a 16oz can and a new recipe that pushes our favorite troublemaker well into the Double IPA category with 9% ABV. Once again loaded with New Zealand Motueka hops, the flavor profile is subsequently dominated by the blend of tropical fruit notes that made us fall in love with the original."; "Craft Be Cherished. Rules Be Damned."

I beCAN with a Crack! of the vent, followed by a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. This resulted in the formation of just over a finger of foamy, soapy, rocky, tawny head with moderate retention that faded away to wisps. Color was Deep-Amber/Light-Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was full-on Motueka with its characteristic melonball fruitiness, like CANtaloupe & honeydew! Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was melonballs, man! Ballin', yo! It was not your typical Southern Hemisphere tropical fruitiness, but instead, CANtaloupe & honeydew with some peach thrown in for good measure. Yum! I felt like a born-again Motueka virgin while drinking this one! It was as if I had never had Motueka before. Mmm. Finish had a slight alcohol burn as though to remind me to be careful when drinking it. It finished pleasantly dry as a result & I was grinning like the butcher's dog! YMMV.
