Souring us all with their blackberry and honeysuckle tea kind of love, DuClaw brewers shower their fans in the brisk acidity of kettle souring ale and a kiss of Southern love.
Their Blackberry & Honeysuckle Tea version of Sour Me pours with a hazy blend of mauve and ruby with the depth of hazy gold. As a frothy cap begins to build, the scent spills over with a brisk tartness, herbal Southern sun tea, floral arrangements and the fruitiness of dark berry. As the sweetness greets the tongue, a hint of taffy, dry pastry and sourdough lays a bed of malt on the front of the palate.
Sourness slowly chases away the malt sweetness and creaminess as its berry influences take hold as the blackberries' robust fruitiness trends winey and briskly acidic. Hints of lemon, lime, crabapple and gooseberry round out the fruitiness before the herbal nature of tea seems of black tea and a bitter, tannic, spicy vegetation decorates the finish.
Medium bodied for sour ale, the brisk taste trends slighly floral and herbal in finish as the taste of honeysuckle allows for a slim sweetness to balance the spice and sourness. Pleasant and moderate, a medium length aftertaste trails into a floral spiciness and an aftertaste redolent of berry skins and seeds.
