Glitter shines brighter in the dark. Giddy up for this french toast flavor frenzy, complete with alluring chocolate and spiced cinnamon. A beautifully dark take on the original “Unicorn Farts”collaboration between DuClaw Brewing Co. & Diablo Doughnuts, now brewed as a dessert stout with chocolatey, cinnamon cereal and gold edible glitter.

Pours a dark brown color with a foamy tan head that lasts quite a while. Aroma of black coffee and roasted malts. Taste is dark chocolate and is slightly sweet. Smooth and creamy.

The label apparently has changed from its original, but all else seems to be the same, as of this sampling. A single pour emptied the entire contents of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug, even with an abundance of carbonation. The brew is black coffee brown and the reasonable head is brownish tan. Cinnamon is as much a part of the aroma as the roasted malt and there might even be a little chocolate or coconut reference for the nose, too. There's more chocolate character in the taste and the Cinnamon, whilst pronounced, isn't over done. It's not nearly as flavorful, nor rich as expected; remember pastry is on the label, in fact. Neither is it especially sweet, not that is a bad thing. The roasted malt is pleasant and there seems to be a little extra bittering from some hops. Although not extraordinary, the taste isn't the problem, it's the mouthfeel. That runs thinly, although it's good enough to carry the ABV nicely. Very sparse glass lacing can attest to that complaint. Overall, it's not just a dessert beer and wouldn't make an excellent one anyway, because of its thin body. It is an OK Stout, with some extra tasteful inclusions.

16oz can into a pint glass. No freshness dating.
Black as black body, could not see any of the edible gold glitter. Small pale tan head, a few rings of lacing early on. Aroma of chocolate and cinnamon. On tasting, some darker chocolate, but mostly cinnamon. This leads to a bitter roasty finish.
Overall, too heavy a hand on the cinnamon for my liking.

The pour is jet black with beige colored frothy head of foam. The taste is dark chocolate, cinnamon, & grains. Moreover, the 8.5% abv is well hidden. Overall, this was a decadent drink, but through the glass I could any of the edible gold glitter. Cheers! A-

Coffee/cola look to the pour, chocolate nose is prominent. Interesting tan foamy head looks very much like the best effort from an espresso machine. Taste leans strongly toward chocolate and coffee with cinnamon underneath in support. Not much nuance here but still a pleasant dessert stout departure.

L: Pours dark caramel/cola, forming a moderate espresso head that is slower to fade. Forms a nice foamy retention on the surface and a robust ring of frothy lacing around the edge of the snifter. Held to the light, this beer has an extremely dark chocolate/dark umber hue. Opaque; near-black.
S: Fainter aromas of chocolate, roasted malt. Coffee. Slight cinnamon.
T: Follows the nose: baker's chocolate, roasted malt. Medium-roast coffee, almost like an espresso. Faint cinnamon in the finish.
F: Medium-bodied. Robust, smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel that finishes dry. Light carbonation,
O: Good stout. Chocolate-heavy.

Pours opaque, jet black in color with one quarter inch head. Taste is big coffee with baker's chocolate and cinnamon. Medium heavy body, moderate low carbonation, roasty. A good stout. Not excellent but far from average either. Good.

The PastryArch Edition #25 has a thick, creamy, beige head and a dark-brown appearance, with heavy lacing. The aroma is of dark-roasted malt. The flavor is of that, with more bitterness than sweetness and some cream. The PastryArchy Edition #25 has a medium body and a dry finish.

I had this on tap at The Craft bar in Fort Walton Beach, FL. With a name like this, how could I resist? However, I didn't think the beer lived up to the high expectations engendered by the name. It was a generic stout in appearance, with little head and no glitter that I could see (maybe that is only in the canned version?). The aroma was sweet or a stout, with few roasted notes and some chocolate. The flavors were also on the sweet side for a stout, again emphasizing sweetness and chocolate over roasted grain, with a hint of cinnamon. Creamy carbonate, low bitterness and little alcohol presence for the stated ABV. I found this to be halfway between a standard stout and a pastry stout, without anything to really make it stand out from the crowd, other than a very original name.
