S: Sticky toffee with a prominent malt aroma. Bourbon notes in the background. Some sweet caramel as well.

L: Fairly clear, dark red with a creamy white head, dissipating shortly.

T: Toffee up front with a fairly sweet bourbon note following. Low bitterness, leading to a fairly sugary caramel and bourbon note, malt character fairly low. Slightly clean into the finish, fairly sweet with a touch of grain.

M: Medium bodied, medium low carbonation. Alcohol fairly well present.

Decent example for the style. Nothing too flashy.

A: Pours a slightly cloudy light chestnut brown with a large head at first that within a few minutes was just a tan head around the edges.

S: At first this smelled really good, then it smelled really good again... Deep sugary oak with a rich vanilla aroma. The malts flavors are strong like you would expect with a bourbon aged barleywine as are the hop aromas to balance it out.

T: Wow, definitely impressed with this one and really glad to have gotten the chance to have tried this rarity. The bourbon flavors are slightly stronger than I anticipated, but they are more subtle than say a Jim Beam bourbon as these are aged in Jack Daniel's barrels. Jack, in my opinion is slightly too sweet a bourbon to really knock my socks off, but this barleywine really put the barrels to good use. Pronounced pine which is overshadowed by very strong vanilla bean and American Oak wood flavors. You can taste the vanilla just pounding away in here but being balanced nicely by a ton of malt and just the right amount of pine hop profile.

M: Medium to thick, this is not sticky, but deliciously satisfying.

O: Definitely glad to have tried this and lucky to have gotten this along with a growler of Double Naked Fish which was another great beer from Duclaw. Duclaw has found itself on my radar .

Huge thanks to ratebeer's very own hopscotch for bringing this growler. The aroma has nice notes of oak, vanilla, some sticky malts and pine hops. The taste is great with smooth sweet malts mixing with smooth oak, sweet vanilla and a hefty amount of pine hop goodness all flowing together seamlessly. It ends with the addition of a weak pulse of whiskey along with lingering pine hops and vanilla. This just comes together amazingly well. I could drink this all night.

I guess this is what I'm drinking today. It's listed on the menu at Max's as the oak aged devils milk.

The beer pours a copper amber color with good head retention and lacing. Don't really get a whole lot on the nose, just some sweet malt and light cherry cough drop. On the palate, the jack daniels really comes through. This beer is quite yummy, with considerable vanilla, JD, caramel, light brown sugar and cherry. While quite sweet, I didn't find this beer heavy or cloying, though there's no denying this beer's richness. Mouthfeel is pretty full, with a long, smooth, sweet finish. There's a bit of noticeable alcohol in the finish, but that's pretty much to be expected in a BW with this level of alcohol.

Pretty good stuff. Not really what I want to drink in the summertime, but this would make an excellent after dinner drink in the winter.

A: This poured clear copper with a little white head.
S: It smelled like bourbon and vanilla and oak, with a little caramel and grapefruit.
T: It tasted like tons of bourbon and vanilla, with some oak and citrus and caramel. It had a mostly sweet and very smooth aftertaste.
M: It was fairly thick with some carbonation. Nice and full body.
D: This was a great barrel-aged barleywine, with huge bourbon flavor and scent. It had great body too, and the alcohol wasn't nearly as noticeable as the regular Devil's Milk. So this was very easy to drink, but worth sipping. Definitely recommended, if you can ever find it.
