Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and char aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and char flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but nothing really stands out about this one.

Acquired this bottle from a brewer at Flying Dog. I understand that this was only for staff.
Pours a deep thick black with short dark than head that fades quickly.
Noise is of roasted grains, malt, chocolate and cocoa, with hints of charcoal.
Taste follows the nose. Taste has some bitter chocolate, cocoa tones and an almost unpleasant charcoal character - but not. It's close but still appealing and I'll call it a "roasty" flavor and not an "ashtray" flavor as with some stouts.
Mouthfeel is of medium body with a small level of viscosity and with a low level of carbonation. There is a bit of bitterness on the tongue, but each sip leaves you wanting to go back and "try again."
Finish is somewhat typical; bitter chocolate with tones of charcoal and roast. Not a bad beer at all.
