Beer is only available on site at Flying Dog. Very surprising, considering the only referent I had for rice beer was Sapporo. Tastes like Belgium ale yeast is in there. The rice malt base is distinctly different than barley based malt but in a subtle way that works well. In rye based beers the rye overwhelms everything, but not so for rice beer, it sits in the back. Hopping in it was aimed at balance rather than defining the flavor of the beer, and sadly I can not pick out what variety was used. I wonder if rice ales are the new trend beer coming. I could taste no lemon grass in the beer. I suspect this was created as a microbrew targeted for food pairing with Asain cuisine, and I think it would accomplish that end well.
