Glad to find this in the local six mix place. Into a pint glass.
Pours a rather dark amber brown with a 1/2 inch of mocha froth that fizzes out very quickly to a faint ring. Smell mostly lager and woody somewhat sweet with some caramel malt but nothing to remind me of caramel popcorn. Taste is much better sugar toffee sweetness and some bread mixed with mild lager skunk and bready yeasts. Body is quite smooth a little heavy for a lager so it's 6.8% is understandable.
Overall an interesting beer and I always do enjoy a sweet ale. Well done!

DATE: January 5, 2017... OCCASION: watching PSU/Northwestern... GLASSWARE: Sam Adams special lager... dark amber body is alive and well with a swirling army of effervescence.... the head is off-white, two-fingers tall, and resilient in its staying power.... sudsy bubbles populate the rim... light butter, sweet caramel, toffee, light fruit, and bread yeasts--a generally attractive palate... sips with a medium-bodied, throat-centric aspect... drinks as a sessionable beer, belying its 6.8% ABV... the profile displays caramel, toffee, sweet sugars, light oak, solid fruits, and reasonable bread.... nothing groundbreaking about this beer--the caramel is tangible but not extraordinary... the weakest of the three in this sampler, but still not an insult...

It is the occasion of Merry New Christmas (Eve) Beer Sunday (Week 670) & this continues today's festivities that I anticipate lasting well into the morrow!
From the bottle: "Whoever started wasting good popcorn by stringing it up on a tree deserves a good ass whoopin’."; "This Caramel Lager was brewed with a little help from our friends at Fischer’s Popcorn, family owned and operated for 80 years. If you can spend that much time with family and stay sane, you know the popcorn has to be good."
Ah, the prising off & subsequent Pop! of the cap - the only real satisfaction that I derive from drinking bottled beers. I will confess to being anxious to get started, but I also did not want to clean up a mess, so I went with a slow, gentle pour into the awaiting glass. Once accomplished, an in-glass swirl raised two-plus fingers of fizzy, foamy, light-tan head with low retention that quickly faded to wisps. Color was Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a pronounced malty sweetness, but I was not perceiving either caramel or popcorn. Hmm. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not terribly far past it, either. The taste was rather innocuous, slightly sweet and malty, but indistinguishable from other American Amber/Red Lagers, especially Yuengling Lager, which is ubiquitous in these parts. I like Yuengling Lager, so by extension, this was a decent beer, but I just was not overly impressed. Finish was semi-sweet, not overly malty, but simply lacking in the Ooomph! department. YMMV.
