Unfiltered for your pleasure, with haze for daze, Thunderpeel is our intensely-aromatic take on the New England IPA. We dry-hop this bad boy with Citra, Galaxy, and Mosaic hops during fermentation to deliver a stormcloud of juiciness that’s 100% thunder and 100% peel. And despite the fact that no citrus fruits were harmed in the making of this beer, you’ll swear we murdered an entire Florida orange grove. Consistently holds its own alongside bold dishes like mango-chutney fish tacos and dragon-level-spicy Chinese take-out.

This beer pours a very hazy pineapple color with a significant white head. It has good head retention. The aroma is very pleasant - primairly hops and citrus fruit. The aroma is somewhat subtle, however. The taste is bitter and fruity; not as hoppy as I would expect from an IPA.

Nothing much distinguishes this hazy IPA with the many others I have had. The smell mostly is the best attribute as it was filled with sweet virus balanced well with that bitter hop smell. Overall, it’s a decent offering, I’ll enjoy the others as I kick back this holiday season.

Flying Dog Brewery "Thunderpeel"
12 fl. oz. can, "ENJOY BY 08/22/21 13:26"
$2.29 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: You've got to hand it to Flying Dog for coming up with a great name. But what is it beyond a hazy IPA at 6.2%? Let's find out. It's poured a cloudy golden body beneath a finger's width of bright white foam that's not really that dense but at least displays both large and small bubbles. The aroma is fairly bright with notes of orange, otherwise tropical fruits but not necessarily citrus, a hint of pine, and some bready malt. I'm not sure that the name "Thunderpeel" really fits it here but let's see how the flavor is. Well it's certainly not bad, but yeah, I think "Thunderpeel" is a bit of a stretch. The orange remains along with a fair amount of peach and nectarine, and there's a slight bit of lemon as well, amidst dull grapefruit, mango, guava, and pineapple. It's sweetish but also a touch acidic, and balanced perfectly by a median bitterness. Forgetting the overcompensation of the name it's actually quite good. It's not a "juicy" and citrus bomb, nor is it a sweet and fruity NEIPA that ends up drying with hop bite, although there is a little bit of that. In the mouth it's medium to medium-light in body with a crisp carbonation. Being easy to drink and refreshing I think this would make a great summer beer.

A: hazy; deep gold in color; 1+ finger finely pored ivory head that receded to a thin cap; very little lacing;
S: not especially aromatic; pineapple with orange and grapefruit in the background;
T: orange first, then grapefruit through the finish; mild bitterness at the end;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;
O: OK, but not something I would choose again;

Very impressed by this beer I swear it had some level of citrus or grapefruit peel added! Very smooth bitterness body not very fruit forward but it was easy enough to quaff. Decent price I might pick it up again!

I absolutely love this beer. I got it in a variety pack and this is easily my favorite one, the balance is amazing it is easy to drink and doesn't take a lot like alcohol or overly bitter at all. The look is amazing looks like orange juice super hazy and the smell is just as great as the flavor. Overall a great beer that is underrated in my opinion.

Next up in my Flying Dog IPA pack is Thunderpeel -- a NEIPA. Looks great on the pour, hazy orange with a thick fluffy head and soapy lacing. Aroma is of citrus fruit and floral hops. Taste is hoppy and pleasant -- Citra, Galaxy, and Mosaic hops -- but feels a little thin and watery on the finish, despite the 6.2% ABV. Overall a decent beer but expect more flavor out of a NEIPA. Not much Thunder in this brew....
