This 11% bombshell will blow you away with its juicy fruity flavors and low bitterness. Despite itself, this hazy IPA drinks like your everyday beer so don’t be surprised when you reach for a second and miss (cause you know... 11%). Perfect for reading your banned books at home, or for when it’s your night to do the dishes.

Didn't care for this one!!!! There is an odd aftertaste that led me to believe than Flying Dog might have used Summit hops (which taste like onions and rotting vegetables to some people, like me). Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, this beer features a deep gold, slightly coppery color and a small bubbly white head that fades fast and minimal retention. Aroma includes some caramel malt and tropical fruit style hops. Aroma is pretty robust. Taste is more of the same with slightly sweet caramel malt and tropical fruit with a little piney flavor too. Then this moderately nasty aftertaste manifests itself. Not enough for a drain pour but definitely takes from the rest of the beer. Mouthfeel is fairly crisp and less alcohol presence that one would expect from 11% abv. A bit of a disappointment, I would not drink this one again.

A - Hazy medium to dark copper orange pour with really thin lacing and low carbonation.

S - Aroma is sticky malt along with some juicy tropical fruitiness.

T - Juicy tropical fruit with a slight bit of perfume sweetness. Pineapple, mango, peach, spicy earthiness, and some sweet malt base with a subtle underlying pine/citrus bitterness.

M - Thick body that's borderline light syrupy along with light prickly carbonation masked in the thickness of the beer.

O - This is a bit of an odd beer. Think Juicy Fruit gum on booze steroids. Not terrible, but glad I only bought one.

For being an 11%, this was quite easy to drink. I'm not sure if I'd get it again, but I'm happy I got to try it.

Flying Dog Brewery "451 Juicy IPA"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle labeled "FOR OPTIMAL FRESHNESS ENJOY BY: 09.19.22" and sampled on 05.30.22
$3.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: I've had to force a head onto this one which is not a good sign but at the same time it is 11% ABV which tends to kill head retention so... It's a very hazy amber beneath a short head of creamy white foam. The aroma is bold and quite unique. I'm getting fruity notes of apricot, berries, tangerine, nectarine, and passionfruit. On to the taste... it's quite bold in flavor as well, and it follows the aroma. A combination of tangerine, peach, and sweet red berry dominates it with supporting notes of apricot, passionfruit, mango, guava, pineapple, lychee, and grapefruit bolstered by the sugary sweet malt beneath. There's also some floral character (rose, lily), pine, and earthiness. The alcohol is clear and along with the fruitiness, floral character, and sugary side it comes of as highly perfume-like. There's not a lot of bitterness to it but the alcohol helps to dry it and it finishes perfumey, fruity, flroal, and a touch earthy. This is a big beer with a lot of alcohol and a lot of character and it needs to be treated as such. The head dropped fairly readily and all I have left is a thin collar and no lace. The mouth feel ismedium leaning towards medium-full and dextrinous but that's cut through by the alcohol which thins it back to medium to medium-full. It's gently bristling with a fine-bubbled carbonation. I don't think I've ever had a beer quite like this, and I'm going to call it world-class in that sense. The alcohol is a bit intense but there are Belgian beers in the same vein so I'll let that go. It's an experience that you shouldn't miss.

Bottle with "enjoy by" date of 9/7/22 into pint glass. Pours a hazy deep gold with a persistent cream-colored head. Not much lacing, but then you wouldn't expect that at 11%. Initial impression is juicy pineapple, pepper, booze, and a touch of caramel. Not as sweet as some DIPAs. Mouthfeel is not as soft as most NEPAs, but nice and chewy. Finish is slightly sweet, slightly boozy, and thoroughly enjoyable. I really like a lot of Flying Dog's offerings, and this one is near the top of the list.

Enjoy by 9/19/22. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip.

Pours a hazy glowing burnt golden; fluffy off-white head that fades leaving decent retention and little lacing.

The aromas have a nice burst of tropical fruits. Hints of caramel. Malts are there.

The flavors basically follow the nose. More tropical fruits leading the way, especially pineapple. Some coconut, mango, peach and apricot. Some grapefruit. More caramel. Hints of pine. Some rye and black pepper in the mix giving this one a little spiciness. Solid bitterness. Subtle sweetness. Solid malt backbone. Finishes juicy. It also finishes slightly warm and the alcohol is slightly noticeable.

This is a pretty solid DIPA. It's interesting because one second I love it and not so much the next. It's big and drinks big. It's definitely not your traditional "Hazy/New England DIPA". I'm not even sure I'd categorize this as one, but oh well.

Wanted to like this more. I like the big style but doesn’t really come off
L: from the bottle. Stylish like flying dog usually is.
S: nice. Sweet citrus. Papaya and melon.
T: leaves me a bit cold. Has a bit of a Belgian flavor that leaves me cold.
F: it’s ok. Fairly smooth.
O: it’s ok but not worth seeking out imo.
