Poured a cloudy brown body with a finger of thick off-white head that slowly receded leaving some sticky lacing. Overall impression of appearance is of a nice strong ale, the best aspect of the beer. Scents of high levels of sweet spices and sweet malt with a caramel character. Spices are mostly cinnamon and there is a light lemon note. Overall impression of aroma is of a malty, spicy Winter Warmer that is a bit one note, not bad, but simple. Flavor begins sweet, with notes of caramel and a large amount of sweet spices, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg with light white pepper and a strong malt presence. Middle gains in spice presence with malt still caramel mostly, with a light toasted malt. Finish is sweet with notes of caramel, sweet spices and light toasted malt. Aftertaste is spicy sweet with toasted notes. Overall impression of flavor follows aroma, a malty, spicy, simple Winter Warmer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a nice Winter Warmer. Overall this is a fairly good Winter Warmer, nothing amazing, but a solid example of the style.
