A 500ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2017. Picked up recently from Morrisons. The label describes it as McEwen's Champion ale blended with fine whisky (though it seems to have been watered down a tad).

A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A deep coppery-reddish colour with good clarity and intense carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a persistent surface layer.

S: Aroma of sweet, fruity malt with hints of dried fruit, caramel, mild brown sugar, ale yeast, vague leafiness and a twinge of spirit. OK but pretty subdued.

T: Tastes of rich, fruity malt with notes of caramel, light brown sugar, raisins, dates, dried fruit, ale yeast, faint leafiness, a whipser of vanilla and a hint of something whisky-like. Quite sweet, with a restrained bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Could be thicker given the strength. Aftertaste of fruity malt, ale yeast and a leafy bitterness.

O: Alright but doesn't live up to its pedigree. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour suggest sweet fruity notes, yeast and light hopping. The aroma is quite understated but the flavour has more character. Average body; a tad thin. Goes down easily enough but comes across as a bit gimmicky - a big brewery jumping on the 'spirit-infused' bandwagon. No need to hunt it down.

Blurb reads - "..Champion Ale blended with the finest scotch whisky". How a 7.4% with an added spirit arrived at 5.8% ABV is anyone's guess!
Dark amber with a dense light tan head. Decent lacing.
Aroma of caramel and vanilla. Very little (distant) whisky discerned.
The taste reflects the smell with a touch of caramel fudge. Quite sweet. Hints of oak wood.
An unexpected beer which I found quite tasty even without the whisky offered.
