A study in balance, this beer is crafted to convey a spectrum of malt character — roast, chocolate, caramel, and biscuit — with tempered hop characters and a dry finish. Brewed using a decoction mash and whole-leaf European hops, “truly, it is in the darkness that one finds the light.” -Meister Eckhart.

From Beer Drop, no dating on the can.
It pours very dark brown cola like, small tannish head of foam, lacing and retention are very good.
The smell is roasted malt, dark chocolate, with some bitter notes here.
The taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, has a nice level of bitterness, some light sweetness notes. Nice balance.
Medium bodied, I would drink this again.

Brownish and redish black opaque body with a large oatmeal colored head and tons of lacing. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, earth, and toasted caramel. Taste is led by roasted malt, dark grain, charred earth, cocoa, and a hint of leather. Lighter yet so full, roasty and smooth, easy drinking. Well done while staying light on the style spectrum, shades of u fleku in the roast and cocoa interchange

16oz can. Bottom stamp is 'CANNED ON 03/06/25'.
Ruby-brown colored body, which looks to be clear. One thick finger of light tan head with the pour, and this becomes a full cap after a couple of minutes. Leaves behind scattered lacing webs.
Aroma of roasted dark bread malts, a little char, but also sweet caramel and chocolate.
Taste is roasted malts, dark bread, a little char and a little sour, coffee, earthy hops, and a bit of chocolate and caramel. Aftertaste brings out some coffee bitterness.
Medium mouthfeel. Creamy and smooth. Minor tongue numbing with each sip. Very good carbonation.
Savory with enough sweetness for balance, chewy.

16 oz can canned 3/6/25 into a Pokal.
L: SRM 33 Pours a dark mahogany brown color, lighter at the base, with a 1/4" off white smooth head that has good retention, light carbo, medium complex lacing.
S: Toasted caramelized malts, cocoa, light char.
T: Dark sweet & tangy fruits, roasted malts, a touch of smoke, cocoa, citrus zest in the finish which is affably pale. It has a well-tempered hop presence.
F: Lightly brisk medium-light bodied mouthfeel with a medium length fairly dry finish.
O: Beautiful balance and contrast btwx the hops and chocolate malts. Very easy drinking. Would pair well with and would compliment many foods. Extremely tasty. It is excellent in its style.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark orangish red with a one finger light khaki head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of lager and toasted malt, faint grassy hops, chocolate, light coffee and a little caramel. Flavor is dark toasted malt, light grassy hops, bakers chocolate, charry coffee and a hint of caramel. Light grassy hops finish with residual mocha. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A quite pleasant Czech dark lager that hits all the expected flavor points for the style. Nice chocolate notes. The hops have only faint herbal grassy character, mostly light bitterness. Nicely balanced. I'd like to try a bit bigger version of this one, the flavors are a little attenuated, but what there is works quite nicely. I'm glad this style is getting attention, I almost drink lagers any more, but these Czech darks hit the spot for me.

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canning date stamp is a bit marred but looks like 11/26/24 maybe. Definitely last 3 months of 2024.
Appearance: dark amber-brown hue with a moderate haze and a finger of tan foam atop. Looks good.
Smell: moderately sweet malt with a good chocolate and caramel aroma. There’s maybe a little vegetal note from the hops, but overall, quite good.
Taste: flavor is a little bit more dry and astringent than the aroma, but that’s not a bad thing. There’s still a good caramel component in here that works really well for me. A solid dark lager.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: a tasty 4.7% dark lager? OK, maybe it doesn’t have the richest body in the world, but I could drink this all day.
