It is an attractive pour: dark mahogany with a full finger cap of creamy, light mocha foam with thick lacing. The smell includes freshly-brewed coffee, cocoa, caramel, and tobacco smoke. Its taste includes bitter, acidic coffee, bakers chocolate, burnt char, cigar ash, and just the tiniest hint of vanilla sweetness. I don't taste the barrel. This Stout has a great mouth feel: luxuriously thick and creamy with low/moderate carbonation, and it drinks well below the 11% ABV. Overall, this is a fine, bitter, Imperial Stout. I wish I could taste more vanilla and dark fruit but this is a strong offering from a new brewery.
