150 years ago, many gardens had a medlar tree, but they have since become rare. In the courtyard of the brewery stood one of these beautiful trees. The aromatic fruits were used in Høstbryggen, which is one of the world's very few medlar beers. It was first produced in 2008. The following year it was also bottled.
Høstbryg is brewed with water, Munich Malt, sugar and hops as well as medlar fruits. It is an amber-colored beer, full-bodied and with an aromatic aroma and a slightly spicy taste of fruit and late summer flowers. Drink it only when the harvest has arrived, because it is a beer for festive, grown-up men.

Copenhagen 27/2 2021. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Søborg Hovedgade, Søborg. Orange version of Holbæk's brewery usual design.
Pours murky, unclear orange with a small white head. Settles as thin, almost transparent layer of foam unable of overing the surface of the beer.
Aroma is fairly intense with a strong sweet, malty odor mingling with a boozy odor of alcohol. Sweet, pale malts, fruity sweetness, white sugar. Boozy edge.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, greasy, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet bordering on sugary. Lingers for a while. Finish is bit cloying.
Nice boozy edge but way too sweet for my taste buds.
