"JulØbryg" is inspired by the Belgian beer type Dubbel, and is therefore brewed with a Belgian yeast type. It has a good malt body, with a lovely sweetness, and notes of nuts, chocolate and caramel from the roasted malt and Muscovado sugar.
This makes the beer well suited to Christmas food, which is usually both sweet, strong, spicy and with browned/braised dishes. There is a certain bitterness from the hops that is good for cleaning up after the rich Christmas food. The Christmas spices and the gentle Sazz hops help well with the Christmas mood.
JulØbryg is one of those Christmas gifts that is welcome to be opened before Christmas Eve.

Copenhagen 4/11 2025. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb. F. Dark purple label with Thurø's Ø-bryg logo and snow falling gently.
Pours slightly unclear mahogany with a mid-sized off-white head. Stable. Settles as a 0,1 cm thck layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer. Crawling up the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with sweet, toasted malts minging with a handful of Christmas spice. Caramel and brown sugar. Anise, ginger and cinnamon. Light whiff of citrus.
Light carbonation. Thin, oily, lively and lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is fairly intense with a medium strong sweetness followed and balanced by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with sweet spices looming. Lingers for a bit. Finish is semi-dy.
A solid dose of Christmas Spice. But that is to be expected with the snow ans Christmas paraphernalia.
