Tasted by half-pint at the Volunteer's Arms, GBBF 06. Dispensed by a handpump.
A: pours a very dark brown colour with mahogany hues... fluffy, thin beige head seems to sustain alright, with very low carbonation.
S: incredibly rich smell of Chinese grass-jelly made of "Mesona chinensis", which is associated with lots of Dark Mild I've tasted... lightly smoked plums and sweet dark dates also at presence...plus a touch of chocolate syrup... fruity, rich, very focused aroma for a 4.0%abv. beer.
T: light-bodied, mildly-toasted malts dominate the palate, with roast tea-leaves and ripe dark fruits developing slowly; a mildly bitter herbal hint and semi-dryish undertone stays firmly in the aftertaste, intensifying bit by bit but not without limits. Finished rather bitter for a Mild. The palate shows a pleasant contrast with the aroma, much less sweet.
M&D: very light in body and smoothly carbonated, this Mild is balanced b/w roasted malts and fruitiness, with a nice lingering dryish touch at the back. Very smooth, delicious, quaffable~~
