A golden ale brewed "in conformity to the Rienheitsgebot" (according to the beer label)... well I can't quite see what the brewery's getting at by stressing the purity law thing, but I'm interested in this CAMRA Gold Medal Winner bottle-conditioned ale all the same. It comes in a 500ml, short-neck, brown, typical English beer bottle. The BB date is Apr. 06.
A: in a goblet it pours a little hazy, deep golden hue and a thin but well-lasting white head.
S: smelling deeply flowery as well as mixed-citrusy plus a soft body of pale malts--elderflower blossom, freshly-cut hays, slightly sweetened lime/grapefruit peel, fruit esters and a touch of honey against a little buttery note at the back; the notes are mixed well and overall quite mild, but dissipates rather quickly...
T: a lively mouthfeel of zesty fruit upfront, without too much a taste of either hops or malts, even a little bland...; later on a refreshing tangy and zesty flavour prevails in the mouth, as pale malts mildly rounded body becomes more assertive, leaving a very dry and even crisp, zesty finish with medium bitterness.
M&D: a constantly, mildly fizzy body ensures this is a lively drink, although in the aftertaste it becomes quite flat; the body is so thin to be at pace with a light flavour, but this beer is really overly light to be a tasty bitter for me. Average bitter with certain quality.
