Our Stout is a rich and complex beer that combines the deep, roasty flavors of a traditional Stout with the subtle sweetness and citrus notes of fresh oranges. Pint pour on draught at the brewery. Served in a shaker glass. A nearly ink black pour. The small, medium-mocha-colored head dissipated quickly leaving an attractive ring and spotty foam floating on the surface. Its nose includes bakers chocolate, freshly-brewed coffee, nutty char, and a whiff of cigar ash. It is an old-fashioned Stout: acidic coffee-forward with notes of bakers chocolate, burnt nuts, and hints of tobacco smoke and orange zest. For an Imperial Stout the mouth feel is a tad bit thin with appropriately lite carbonation. The 8.1% ABV gives it good substance without overpowering. Overall, Velvet Hammer is a well-crafted, traditional American Imperial Stout that is well-worth a try.
