From notes taken at the brewery.
The board had it just listed as 'Barrel Aged Split Shot,' so I'm assuming that this is the same barrels.
Pour was a light ashy black. in lieu of a full head, there was just a ring of taupe carbonation around the edges. Laced the glass decently well.
Barrel notes are quite mild on the nose. The whole thing is very reserved. Dry is the word that kept coming to mind. Light sweet chocolate and some milky lactose sweetness as well.
More bitter on the tongue than the nose. Ashy coffee. Some lactose. Barrel comes through pretty light. Touch of sweet chocolate. More bitter coffee and lactose to finish.
Kind of a thin body, but still chewy.
I liked the original more. It felt more flushed out, and as much as I love barreling, in this instance it didn't do the base beer justice.
