Achilles Amber Ale

Had a pint at Elysian Fields, the amber is on the darker side, chill hazed with a small, creamy, long-lasting khaki head that leaves a thick foam coating in the glass.

The aroma is pretty hoppy for an amber, although lacking pungency and overall pretty moderate. A really nice cedar note which must be the Ahtanum variety, which I'm not familiar with, but apparently is similar to cascade and Amarillo.

The taste is rich but very restrained maltiness, hops less subtle, but more so then the aroma. Overall the taste is soft and dry, with a very clean, seltzer like finish.

The moutfeel is crisp and sharp.

The cedar notes are really nice, and makes this a very regional tasting amber. Pretty good, but to subdued to be memorable, I'd like to see the malt punched up a bit.

I had this one at their outpost located next to the Safeco Field. Served in a standard pint the beer was a deep red with a smallish beige head.

Nice aroma of caramel, fruit (plums) and some citrus.

This is a decent Amber. As expected the beer is slightly sweet with whispers of roasted grains. There is some apple notes and the hops may be a bit more aggressive than most ambers. I liked the background bitterness.

The mouth is solid and workman like. This would be a session beer for most folks. I think Ambers are a good way to judge a brewpub as it is hard to hide flaws given the fairly mild taste profile. No Achilles heel in this beer!
