One of the things I liked about Elysian was the truly interesting array of seasonal beers they had—it felt like a spectral palate of different styles and experiments. This was one of them. Had on-tap at the brewery.

Pours a hazed golden hue with moderate weight. Head is full and white and leaves sheeting lace. Looks good.

Spicy fruit on the nose with oddities rearing their head. Durian flavour, dragonfruit and musk come through lending a weird and eccentric turn to the brew. Fantastically different.

Taste is also really good. More spicy fruit on the front, with pineapple, lemon and kiwifruit lending a hand along with the more esoteric examples. Finish is dry, with a pleasant hint of clinging acidity. Feel is light, but nice, and very suitable.

Surpremely drinkable and very, very interesting. This is one of those beers that works, even though it's really quite different from the established styles. It certainly made a refreshing change from a lager on a hot day in Seattle.

On tap at E Fields summer of 2008.

Appearance: cloudy yellowish orange in color with a one finger head that lasted. Decent lacing develops during the session.

Smell: yeast and sugary sweetness are up front, and some fruit tones are a bit softer.

Taste: this was a unique tasting beer. The fruit sweetness was a bit different than normal, and the yeast was clearly noticeable. Bitterness was nicely balancing.

Mouthfeel: crisp throughout with a bit of dryness at the end. Medium bodied. Aftertaste is short-lived.

Drinkability: pretty decent drinking beer here, but the uniqueness is good for one pint. Worth a try.

Sampled on tap at Elysian Tangletown.

This beer is brewed with Yuzu, a Japanese citrus fruit.

Slightly cloudy dark straw color. White pillowy head, turns into a thin cover. Malty pleasant nose, but only a hint of the fruity Belgian esters we all know and love. The taste was frankly not great. It's missing the "funk" of fruity esters that I have come to expect from Belgian and Belgian-style brews. Too bitter for the style. This kills it. Sorry but this is not a Belgian golden ale. Finally, mouthfeel was a little too fizzy.

Would not order again. I'd stick to their other brews.

Tried 12 Sep 2009 at the brewery.

Slightly hazy dark yelow color. Aroma is floral and perfumey, slight citrus. Starts cirtusey and dry, turning sweet through the middle. Lots of orange citrus to the end and in the finish. Light body. Zingy finish and aftertaste.
