Great name for a pumpkin beer and a cool style variation- a pumpkin dubbel. Propss once again to this brewery for their creativity. Brewed with Maris-Otter Pale, Crystal 45, Special B, and chocolate malts. US Northern Brewer hops used to bitter and Czech Saaz hops used to finish. Pumpkin added to the mash and kettle and amber Belgian candi sugar used in the boil. Starting gravity 17.4 degrees plato.
Poured cloudy brown with a good head that fades to a medium cap and sticks around. Typical Belgian aromas of candi sugar and spice. The taste starts with some flat tannins and then swells to more fully flavored notes of rum and spice by the end. Has the creamy pumpkin mouthfeel and body, but the flavors lack the sweetness suggested by the nose that would really pull it all together. Good, just not great. Could be tweaked a bit and really succesful. I'd like to see a bit more sweetness and a bit more Belgian yeast tang.
