Had it at the Capitol Hill location with dinner; served in a regular shaker.

Appearance is an orangish-tan color with some white head, smell is hard to figure as the funky/brett seems to be very subtle in this area. Neverless, once you put your nose within a millimeter of the beer itself you can smell the funk coupled with some of the flower that is brewed in it (hibiscus I believe), it's a really light smell, but it's there.

To me the taste is unique as it is really light bodied and nothing really hits or slaps you as you drink it. For someone who is used to sour ales this is the equivalent of a "light" sour ale. As I drink it, I can taste traces of the brett/funk plus it has a flowery finish which really makes this beer interesting and gives it a "tarty" aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is interesting as it is the flowery tang with a bit of funk that remains after swallowing the beer. I like it though.

This really is a drinkable sour as it is ranked at 5%. I polished off two glasses and would've gone for another if I didn't have to drive.

My only wish is that they would bottle this and sell it in six-packs, especially in the summer as I can easily see it being a great go to beer for sour fans.

"Happy Birthday Hawaii - Wild yeast and tart flowers come together in this beer named after Maui's easterly volcano. Brewed with organic pale, Crystal, Munich and wheat malts, fermented with 100% Brettanomyces, bittered with Palisade and finished with Glacier hops and Hibiscus (Hawaii's state flower). Starting gravity 1.054, alcohol 3.9% by weight, 5% by volume."

On draught at the Capital Hill pub. Served in a shaker. Chill hazed dark, burnt orange with a thin off-white head that leaves light, scattered lace.

Smell is funky, an not in the 'bretty' sense of the word, but just obtuse. Definitely hibiscus, a floral perfume with a sour tinge, interesting, it really opened up nicely as it warmed. Sexy.

Taste is also quite unique, some acetic vinegar/sour character tempered by the flowers, only a hint of pucker but big complexity without being to strong tasting, that sweet tart like flavor I love, that is most common in Flanders reds. Really awesome beer that continued to wow me with every sip.

Mouthfeel is creamy, light bodied, dry.

Drinkability is very good, I am really loving this beer, wow. I was lucky enough to get to have a Rodenbach Vin de Cereal only 2 weeks ago, and I have to say the sweet tart character here really reminds me a bit of that characteristic of it. The flower flavor though might start to be a bit much after more then 2-3 pints, which ultimately caps this score.
