"Inspired by the beers of Corsica. Brewed with Pale, Crystal, Munich, Carahell, Cara-vienne and chocolate malts, with 12% chestnut flour in the mash, and molasses added to the boil. Bittered with earthy Ahtanum hops. Starting gravity 1.048, alcohol 4.1% by volume."
On draught at the Capital Hill pub. Served in a cervoise, Arboreal Chestnut Brown is chill hazed chestnut (duh!) brown with only a thin white collar leaving light, scattered lace.
Smell is soft, a little acrid at first, some sweeter dark malt starts to cut through as it warms from the cold serving temp.
Taste is malty brown, a hint of acrid nuttiness, but my first impression was "$5.50 for a schooner of what is basically a low ABV brown ale??" While the flavor is pretty robust for the size, which I assume is from the chestnut flour, and that is no doubt costly, I'm not digging the ROI.
Mouthfeel is dry, medium body.
Drinkability is pretty good, a full flavored brown ale that's low enough in ABV that you can really through them back. However, the cost/oz is not conducive to doing so. Nice to have tried though.
