I have been saying for some time that Wrigleyville has not fully utilized its visitor base with regard to breweries and the like. As if to shut me right up, they (that's "The Powers That Be, kiddos) decided to plop right down not just a brewery (you likely can't see it, but that "a" is most certainly italicized, believe you me), but a collective, legion-style group of beweries, a Ghidorah of breweries if said space dragon had more than three heads. There's more than one brewery housed here, is what I'm saying, poorly. The brick space isn't all that involved, what with a medium-sized main bar space taking up the overwhelming majority of the floor space on the main level, some screens on the walls (my choice was the current golf tourney and the Pirates marathon on Freeform), some patio seating outside (why do city denizens feel the urge to eat, drink, and carouse closer to the car-filled streets that already strangle their lives?) off to the right. Not all that many tables inside, to be honest. As the signs will tell you, the bathrooms are located downstairs, within the realm of The Devious Lounge, the resident cocktail lounge. This lounge was not open when I visited on an early Saturday afternoon, but it did look pretty nice and cozy, very brick basement-y in the best way. Arguably a bit involved for bathrooms, but, hey, real estate has its constraints. The beers on offer include efforts from Dokkaebier, Paracaidista, Brutalist, Brewer's Kitchen, and Years, among potential others. However, to my chagrin, the majority of the menu items were can pours, with only a relative handful being available from the tap. It may just be me, but I prefer the tap options when I hit up a brewery's home base, so this was mildly off-putting, just not enough for me to get actually upset about it. The offerings (both tap and can) range from IPAs (plenty) to lagers, a table beer, a few non-alcoholics, and a few stouts. I didn't converse very much with the 'tender, what with Pirates 2 hitting that scene where Jack Sparrow lunges at the kraken (spoilers, I guess), but she was more than amiable and quick to deliver my orders. I don't believe food was on offer, to be honest, but I did see a cute fluffy pup enter and then hit the patio before I left, so there's that. I should also note that, unlike the other Pilot Project location over on Milwaukee, orders are not made entirely via the ToastTab app, so that's nice even for a socially anxious weirdo like me (I hate apps more than the awkwardness inherent with dealing with other people). Overall, gotta say this is a pretty nice addition to the Wrigleyville scene, especially when the bars in eyesight just outside the door are cowboy bars and such. Here's hoping there's plenty of support for these folks, as I don't wanna see a repeat of the District Brew Yards failure.
