Citraweisse is a berliner-style Weiss brewed to complement summertime’s easy living. This hazy sour ale’s distinguishing sharp tartness is due to the kettle-souring process with our house lactobacillus culture. A hefty dry-hop of Citra® gives this refreshing sessionable seasonal a powerful citrusy punch. Forget Grandma’s Lemonade, Citraweisse is the perfect companion for summer refreshment.

I don't know if this has evolved over the years, but it's now described as a "kettle-soured Berliner-style Weisse." And it's plenty sour. I thought it was spoiled at first, not expecting the sourness. It has that vinegar smell with a whiff of the compost bin that I get from these kettle sours.

Attractive, though, with a modest white foam on the clear golden brew in the Maredsous goblet. Flat taste is enlivened slightly by the touch of lemon peel, maybe from the Citra hops. Not very fizzy. Quite astringent as well as lemony. I don't find it drinkable and even less appealing that average Berliners. But fans of the style may want to give it a try as it's packaged in 12 oz cans and sold at markets in Bellingham.

Served On-Tap at the brewery in a shaker pint

A — Pours a real deep hazy orange, clearly unfiltered, very hazy, little to no head at all, some light retention around the edges.

S — Smells very bright and citrusy, lemon, grapefruit, wheat, lightly tart.

T — Very nice and refreshing, crisp, clean, wheat, citrus, citra hop goodness.

M — Light-Medium bodied, carbonation level is spot on.

O — A very nice surprise from Boundary, very refreshing and just lightly tart.
