A dark mahogany with light tan frothy head. A light molasses and spice aroma. Flavors of molasses and a little chocolate and a hint of spice. An alcohol sweetnessis present in the finish. Mouthfeel is a thin syrupy consistency.
This is a nice easy drinking beer. very sweet and good flavor, grest for an after meal beer.

Came to the table a chocolatey caramel-brown; a mighty frothy head left dotted walls of lace.
Aroma is rich and malty, mostly dark fruit and a little chocolate.
Flavor mirrors and magnifies the aroma, it also being rich and malt-centered, with plenty of dark fruit notes, caramel-ish sweetness, toffee; the finish brings out some milk chocolate. Soft, round texture was almost cask-like in its velvety caress on the tongue.
This was my first Boundary Bay beer, and it immediately became clear that this is not your everyday, boring, naive-tourist-brewpub. Hopefully their bottling operation will expand, as this stuff is too good to save just for lucky locals.

Served on tap at the pub. A beautiful almost-black color with a deep tan head. The beer was very active which lead to more overflow than expected.
Rich malt aromas dominate, usually this beer has an extremely sweet scent that is missing this year, a positive development. The flavors follow as expected, and the missing sweetness is such an improvement that this almost is a different beer. Nicely balanced flavors make this a great drinking beer.
The body is full without being heavy, and I'm happy to say that this years version is smoothly drinkable. Having multiples of this beer is now possible, in past years the heavy sweetness would require having a palate cleanser between rounds of the dunkel.
Boundary Bay has history of making great ales, it's great to see a great lager come from these regional favorites.

Had on tap at the brewpub a while back.
The beer pours a toffee brown color with good head retention and lacing. On the nose I get a smokey, sweet malt flavor... it smells just delicious. On the palate this beer is just wonderful, with a complex array of flavors including more smoke, cherry, vanilla, chocolate and butterscotch. The beer has a medium to full bodied mouthfeel, and there is noticeable warming from the abv. The beer is very smooth, potent, rich and sweet, and is an absolute joy to drink. Impressive.
