12oz can courtesy of bbthunderbolt. He sent me a LIF box of mostly upper left Washington beers. This is a "Pride IPA" brewed for Pride Month. Canned on June 27, 2002, per the stamp on the bottom of the can, a portion of the proceeds go to an LGBTQ charity.
Poured into a Boundary Bay shaker pint glass, also courtesy of BBThunderbolt, albeit from some time ago. Fairly clear, amber color, with a decent sized off-white head. Decent lace.
Smells like an old school WCIPA, with a bit of juice and melon as well, but without a lot of amplitude. It's mostly what I really dig from an IPA, but not quite the desired amount of oomph. Malt bill smells a little robust.
Taste is pretty similar to the smell. This tastes like an almost old school WCIPA, but, maltwise, things are a bit Thicc. Wouldn't mind if the hops were a little more outspoken and the malts were a bit more shy. Nevertheless, it is quite pleasant to drink. Finishes a bit dry and herbal for what went before.
Oily, resiny mouth feel. Body kinda reminds me of a DIPA, which, at 6.8% abv, this practically is.
Not an IPA I'd exactly rush out to acquire, but it's a nice drinker and supports a good cause. I'm actually lifting it to toast a same sex couple that are great friends of mine and are celebrating a decade of marriage while vacationing in a tropical climate as I type this. Thanks for this, Terry!
