on-tap at the brewery
appearance: served in a snifter, somewhat clear dark mahogany body, light tan lace
smell: quite hoppy - bitter grapefruit rind, loads of NW pine resin, boozy, caramelized malts
taste: sticky and sweet - pine sap, grapefruit rind, brown sugar, thick caramel malts. Billed as a hoppy barleywine, this one delivers.
mouthfeel: sticky and full bodied
overall: good

The waitress described this as a "hoppy barley wine" which, in my mind, frequenty equates to an iipa.
This is not an iipa, but rather something else entirely. (Spoiler: it's great!)
This is less hoppy than a pliny or a 90 minute easily, but is much more balanced, in terms of a bitterness/sweetness ratio, than a barley wine. Honestly it's like a bigger pale ale in terms of balance: a little sweet, a little hoppy, a little bitter but no harsh alcohol tone at all.
A wonderful chestnut brown, very little wad, mild hop aroma and a small lace around the glass.
Phenomenal!

This one-time brew was made to celebrate BB's 15th Anniversary. Even the owner and brewers aren't sure what style this ended up as, so I just stuck it under the Strong Ale banner.
Served in 10oz goblet. Poured a clean, clear medium dark brown, with a half-inch of khaki colored head that had OK retention and lacing.
The aroma was sweet and had a noticeable alcohol scent. There's a bit of peatiness to the aroma, along with the grain and malt. Being from BB, there is also the expected tang of hops on the nose. All those aspects are on the tongue in a magnified manner. The alcohol isn't as strongly noticeable in the taste.
The body is full and rich, with a nice smoothness. Drinkability is very good for a brew so strong. Overall, this is a very nice beer that I'm going to enjoy as long as it's around. Worth visiting to try this brewery only release.
