Harvest Rye’s arrival heralds colorful leaves and cool Northwest breezes. Copious amounts of flaked rye and Skagit Valley Triticale malt expound a complex depth to an enticing, bright copper-colored medium-bodied fall seasonal. A light bitterness and flavors of freshly harvested orchard fruit balance its toasted caramel backbone.

The label is a thing of beauty, with artwork of trees as well as the brewing ingredients. Flaked rye and Skagit Valley Malt triticale, which is a Wheat-Rye Hybrid. Hops are listed as Fuggles and Cascade.
Pours a beautiful clear copper color with fine-grained foam. The mouthfeel is creamier than most anything I've tried lately. While this seems rather acidic at first, the malty background with a touch of sweetness becomes more evident. Warm and roasted with dark bready taste. The rye is spicy but less bitter than typical brews in the style.
This is really worth trying-- a different style, different malts, and even the hops are less common in these IPA-centric days. From the 12 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station and I will hope to find a six-pack.

Pours a brilliant copper color, crystal clear, with a light tan head. The nose is rich caramel, rye, and more than a bit of stone fruit.
The caramel and rye are very forward, but it’s the stone fruit that I’m really enjoying (I’m reviewing this live because I have a fat thumb and posted this before it was ready, so I’m flying in “Edit” mode). So much flavor in a 6% ABV beer, it’s ridonkulous - and a perfect beer for a cool fall evening around a fire pit. I could drink this for DAYS.

L: SRM 17ish. Amber brown with red hue. Transparent, crystal clear with a fizzy white head.
S: Pumpernickel, honey, and then caramel. A sweetness of apple.
T: Honey and dark rye. A complex spice aspect of cinnamon, allspice, clove- enticing. A caramel finish so sweet and malty.
F: Medium body and carbonation. Moderate bitterness.
This beer shouts autumn in color and taste. It reminds me of eating warm sauerkraut on rye after raking the leaves in the early throes of winter. Warming and nearly like syrup, but not quite. Earthy flavors yet humble and slightly sweet.

I had this on-tap in a pint glass at Special Brews in Lynnwood, WA.
Appearance: medium brown hue with a light haze; not much head due to the pour. Murky and autumnal - I like it!
Smell: lightly sweet and fruity; a little surprising for a rye. There's a little pear aroma here which I quite like.
Taste: very nutty with a little bit of an orchard fruitiness (that pear again); subtle and to great effect. A little bit of toastiness rounds it out quite well. Very autumnal and satisfying.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a well integrated carbonation and a decent creaminess.
Overall: this beer just hit the spot for my mood on this chilly October day. Great!

This year BB changed the recipe for their annual fall seasonal and added a percentage of Rye to the malt bill. Served in straight pint glass. Poured a slightly chill-hazed coppery amber color with about 1-1/2 inches of of just off-white head that had good retention and lacing.
The aroma was nicely malty, had a touch of sweetness and had just enough hops to be interesting. Then there was a very nice underlying Rye sharpness that tied everything together. On the tongue the story was pretty similar, solid base malts, nice hop seasoning and a good rye crispness.
The body was nicely full and smooth and wasn't at all heavy or sticky. Drinkability was very good, several pints went down easily and I suspect more will in the next few weeks. Overall, a pretty nice take on a seasonal style. A must try if you see it and perhaps worth a bit of effort to seek out.
