Pick up a waxed covered bottle at the brewpub yesterday, which I then shared with a friend.
The beer pours the expected blackish brown color with good head retention and light lacing. On the nose I'm not getting a whole lot... maybe some light brown sugar, light coffee and light vanilla. My friend indicated he could pick up bourbon on the nose as well, but I'm not getting it. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this easy going imperial stout. Despite the relatively high abv., this really doesn't come across as a big beer. This stout is moderately sweet, and again, I'm not picking up much bourbon or barrel character. Mouthfeel is soft and fairly full, with a moderately long finish. Alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile, and again, I would not guess that the abv is 11%. So drinkability is pretty decent.
There are a lot of really good BBA imperial stouts on the market these days, and this really isn't one of them. It's not bad and is very easy drinking, but probably isn't something I'd order again.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
