Poured from the taps at the Brauhaus and delivered to our table on the schloss Platz in a tall .5L glass bier krug. The liquid is close to black with good carbonation. The head is a tall 2 fingers of large bubbles that leave some lace.
The smell is rich and toasty with lots of notes of chocolate, coffee and hazelnut.
The taste is really quite good and complex, lots of interesting notes usually delivered from a porter or stout. Deep roasty coffee, and chocolate are the rule with sub notes of hazelnut and licorice. Dang that is a good beer, freshness counts. It kind of makes one wonder what all those beers the Germans send to the US tasted like when they are fresh. Well I am here to find out, Prosit.
The mouthfeel is spot on, great refreshing medium body, smooth and creamy, with nice carbonation.
The drinkability of this brew is really good I wish I would have saved it for dessert.
Prosit, und Zum Wohl
