Our spring beer dedicated to Augustenfeld's namesake. A “Pale Ale” with Bavarian hop varieties.
Princess Auguste was born the eldest daughter of the future King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria (1756-1825).
She was already engaged to Karl Ludwig Friedrich, the Hereditary Grand Duke of Baden, but as Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte was prepared to make her father king, he demanded her in return as a bride for his stepson, the Viceroy of Italy. After agreeing, her father was proclaimed King of Bavaria on January 1, 1806. Auguste resisted the union, sulked and fell into prolonged fainting spells. This was in vain, she had to submit.
However, it is reported that the marriage for reasons of state developed into a lifelong, happy love affair.
