A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2015. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. Brewed to celebrate the 2014 Tour de France as it passed through Yorkshire; described on the label as a pale ale with a tangerine nose.
Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear golden hue with good carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing. Aroma of light malt with hints of grain, husk, faint ale yeast, subtle earthiness and stewed leaves. Not much going on.
Tastes of light malt with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of mild grain, stewed leaves, faint herbs, subtle yeast and earthiness. Well-attenuated, followed by a crisp, woody bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with prickly carbonation and a fairly insubstantial body. Slightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter stewed hops/herbs and a twinge of yeast.
Decidedly underwhelming - no maillot jaune for this effort. Looks alright, but the aroma is exceptionally bland and the flavour little better. Rather bitter for the style but otherwise lacking in depth of character. So-so body. A pretty forgettable beer; it doesn't hold your attention. No need to seek it out.
