Tasted by a half-pint at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield. Served by a hand pump fitted w/ a sparkler.
A: golden-hued, poured with a slightly off-white frothy head with nice retention, while the carbonation is very low indeed.
S: straw-ish and buttery notes dominate the aroma, underlined by a rich and intense flow of nectar-like fragrant mixture of malts and lots of hops - overall, very pleasant.
T: just like the nose, the taste is richly buttery upfront, followed by an assertive flow of citrus peels and floral hoppyness, then a deeper layer of juicy biscuity and toasted malts prevail; the aftertaste has zesty and tannic hops along with a profoundly lingering bitterness to precede a long finish of tangy, tannic, and simultaneously aromatic hoppyness.
M&D: quite intense and rich in texture, but well-balanced in terms of the flavour profile; this is a well-crafted and easy-drinking strong ale, with an intense component of malts and buttery yeastiness true to a traditional Northern English pale ale.
