Deep dark brown—light doesn’t pass even along the edge. Minor head which retains the rim bubbles but doesn’t leave any significant lace on the glass.
Good burnt barley malt aroma. No coffee, more like charcoaled wood after a fire.
Thin body like an Irish Stout but with a higher carbonation level. The black patent malt (burnt wood) really comes through in the taste as well. Again no coffee or bitter chocolate. Despite the strong bitterness, the aftertaste drops dramatically after the swallow and then it lingers faintly for a very long time.
