I don't know why this beer doesn't get more attention.
Aroma: chocolate, licorice, whiskey, complex malt
Appearance: Motor-Oil color, deep brown head, long lasting thick mousse head
Flavor: Malt forward and well-aged alcohols, finishes sweet with dark chocolate aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Full body, Moderately-low carbonation, very smooth
It is a full-bodied Russian imperial stout aged in freshly emptied whiskey barrels from High West Distillery (at least the 2016 batch was). The barrels received another batch through them and produced the 2017 version. These barrels can now be seen on the patio at Wells Park (the brewery location).

a huge russian imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels, lots of character to this one, and overall one of the bigger and more robust beers i had at any brewery in albuquerque. i enjoyed this one over at the wells park location, but added it here as it seems most of the tractor beers are under this listing. not a ton of head on the pour but an obsidian shine in the glass and a dense coal black shade, viscous enough, and emitting a wonderful aroma of rich oak, sweet vanilla, and burnt barley. the dark malt in here is really deep, charred almost ashen, which works well with the obvious barrel char that is in here from the whiskey barrels. i get a little tang to this, like it was partially sour mashed, not sour in any way, but sort of breaking down some of the sweet and malty intensity that often runs away with these. not sure thats what they did, but they kept the body and sweetness at bay somehow, and it makes a lot of sense. i get burnt grain and overbaked bread to this, i also get a really natural vanilla complexion, lots of it coming through the whiskey. this is quite boozy too, exposed a bit all the way through, but i dont mind that in the style. tons of roast and coffee character too, and overall this is a very well done beer with the right amount of barrel and bourbon on it. enhancing but not dominating a very solid base beer. well done by tractor!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
