Delivered to me by a colleague who visited the beautiful Kamchatka Peninsula early in September, this beer should be the favorite of any "Risk" player. Comes in a standard brown half liter bottle with a beautiful multi-colored lable that features the snow-covered volcanoes that are Kamchatka's trademark. The list of ingredients includes "rice or corn", sugar and additives. Bottled on 9/2/03, the label states that it is best within 8 days of bottling. I did not get to try it until 10/1/03. Pity.
Poured a cloudy yellow gold under a big (really big) white head with lots of contour. Excellent rings of lace went down the side of the glass as the head retention was outstanding. The nose was malty, but slightly sour. The mouth was quite prickly, and light. The taste opened citrus sour, very much reminiscent of a Kristallweizen, but with a nice bold hoppy finish. The beer was slightly off due to being past its expiration date, but I could tell it was (or had been) quite good.
