12 ounce can - says “Modern IPA” on the can. This is in no manner an IPA, and without any other description, honestly feel duped. Nevertheless I effort to rate on the beer itself, rather than as an IPA, at which point 1/5 may be too high.
Pours an initially clear pale straw colour with a big foamy white head - finish of pour results in a uniform haze.
What the heck on the nose - saison (?) - funky and fruity - green banana, pear, lemon, perhaps a touch of pepper - some Brettanomyces.
Fruity and funky on the palate, pear, Brett, tart lemon and a slightly chalky yeasty note.
Bright and tart light mouthfeel with active carbonation and a dry funky aftertaste.
I really was not enamoured by this as a farmhouse ale; as an IPA I dislike it with fervour.
