Sampled off cask, Cafe Volo.
A pretty sleek appearence, a well polished auburn brown with plenty of highlights. Lacing and good head that lasted three quarters of the pint before disappearing. Lots going on in the aroma - copious roasted barley, various brown malts, with real earthy tones. A cardboardy mouthfeel. Flavours are very nice but don't last long enough to make a real impression, that's it's shortcoming. A good session beer, close to being a very strong example of the style.

sampled on cask at volo.
pours a deep red-brown with a big dense tan head. drops very slow and leaves spotty lace down the glass.
aroma is nice. bready malt and some yeast. bit of floral hops. hint of alcohol. light roast and smoke.
taste is good. light roast with a little smoke. nice bready malt. bit of burnt caramel. hint of dark chocolate. malt is simple, not much depth to it, but nice.
mouthfeel is good. light carbonation with a good body.
drinkability is good. well balanced and enjoyable.
